After the long flight, you will be rewarded by this cozy and serene lodge built around a working coffee plantation with excellent food, comfortable furnishings and superb coffee.

The Arusha Coffee Lodge is located a solid 1-hour drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport, which can be too tiring to make the drive. If you are arriving via Dar es Salaam instead of Kilimanjaro then the Arusha Coffee Lodge makes the perfect choice. The lodge is conveniently located about 5 minutes away from the Arusha airstrip, which is the main hub for all the intra Tanzania flights to and from the famous game parks. It is also relatively close in proximity to several good shopping areas.

The lodge consists of 23 luxury chalets which are creatively decorated. Each chalet is spaced throughout the lush coffee grove to ensure privacy and solitude. The beds are very comfortable and furnishings are top quality with lots of interesting coffee themed artifacts. There is even a little sitting room with couch and chairs off from the bedroom. The bathrooms are grand with nice fixtures including bath and shower. One of the nicest features is the private wooden deck attached to each chalet which overlooks the coffee plantation. As the majority of arrivals are at night, the deck offers a great morning spot to experience your first sights and sounds of Africa. You might spot the first wildlife of your safari as vervet monkeys can be seen as they clamber around.

The main lodge structure and area is surprisingly large and interesting. There is a nice swimming pool and spa area behind the reception and restaurant. The gift shop is located in this main complex and houses some great gift ideas though it’s a bit pricey compared to the local shops. Maps and the very informative national park booklets can be purchased here. The lodge also has a wonderful bar and lounge area which offers a great atmosphere.

Food and Drink

Arusha Coffee Lodge is home to the reputable Redds African Grill House. The food here is excellent and the menu diverse. Most of the ingredients are supplied by local farms. There is a variety of main stream choices as well as local and African dishes. The bar area can get quite lively at night and is a great place for a few after dinner drinks.

Breakfast is simple yet good and consists of an assortment of cereals, breads, fruits and traditional egg dishes. Lunches are usually barbeque style while a variety of dishes are offered at dinner.

Set in lush gardens amid forest and crystal clear waters on the slopes of Mount Meru, Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is the ideal base for a safari. The lodge was created from a farmhouse built at the turn of the century. It has just ten rooms and provides personal service to Lodge residents only. Thick walls, heavy timber beams and period décor, impart comfort and charm. The gardens contain a profusion of trees and flowers, two hundred species of birds have been recorded. Troupes of Sykes and colobus monkeys inhabit the forest and grounds. The keen angler can try his hand at still-water fly-fishing for specimen rainbow trout.

There are eight garden rooms each of approximately 40 square meters furnished with double bed and a third occasional bed. In the main house are two suites of approximately 55 square meters. These share the main balcony and the Kilimanjaro view.

The Lodge is 20 km east of Arusha on the Moshi Road. Just 1.5 km from the main road is a jacaranda avenue leading to a foot-bridge. The Lodge is reached by crossing the lake and climbing steps up through the gardens or by driving around our forest reserve to reach the car park. It is equidistant between Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and the Arusha Airport, both of which are reached in about half an hour. We can meet guests at the airports and transfer them between the lodge and Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha Airport. KLM has daily flights direct from Europe.

The meals at the lodge are very tasty. Breakfastsinclude seasonal fresh fruit and juice, cereals, homemade breads served with locally made jams and marmalade, fresh free range farm eggs cooked to order and served with bacon and tomato. Lunch may include cheeses, fresh fruits and salads, some fresh fish, curries of chicken and vegetable with basmati rice and condiments or a vegetarian meal with steamed vegetable, curries and salads with brown rice. This rich habitat contains a great diversity of birds. If you are a herpetologist you will enjoy the species diversity along the lake shore.

Bird watching – Over two hundred species of birds have been observed around Ngare Sero including 16 species of herons and resident fish eagles. Over five hundred species of birds occur in the Arusha area. We offer to show ornithologists other great locations for bird watching in the diverse habitats on the slopes of Mount Meru.

We generate our own electricity with a hydroelectric turbine to power most of the trout farm and lodge. Let us show you around this environmentally friendly method of aquaculture.

KIA Lodge’s convenient location, situated less than 5 minutes from the Kilimanjaro airport, makes it an ideal position for fatigued travelers seeking a good night's sleep to springboard the rest of their safari vacation. KIA Lodge serves as an economical choice for those travelers interested in a comfortable lodge to base the rest of their travels.

The lodge consists of 40 rooms in individual thatched chalets, or round "bungalows." Each chalet is spaced throughout the wonderful acacia tree property on winding stone pathways. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and equipped with air conditioning (although you will unlikely have a need for it.) Each room is pleasantly decorated with Makonde woodcarvings, and is appointed with a small writing desk and charming wicker chairs. You may choose either a double room (equipped with two twin beds) or a larger room (equipped with a third bed for families.)

The main lodge structure and common areas are very nice and consist of an open sided restaurant, an open air terrace bar above the restaurant and a superb swimming pool area on top of a hill. The open air bar offers a spacious and relaxing environment to enjoy a dink after dinner or meet other guests. However, the real highlight of KIA lodge is the swimming pool terrace which is set on top of a hill above the bar. From this area there are amazing 360 degrees panoramic views of the surrounding area including Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.

KIA Lodge is located only a few minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport and is roughly half way between the small cities of Arusha and Moshi. The outskirts of Arusha lie just 30 minutes to the west of the lodge. A few miles to the northeast is Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, and to the northwest is Mount Meru.

Food and Drink

The food at KIA Lodge is very good. Since many of the guests staying at KIA will be arriving on the late night KLM flight, a wonderful buffet dinner is set up just after the plane lands at about 9.30 pm. The staff at KIA Lodge will even delay the cooking and preparation should the plane be late to ensure a superbly fresh meal for weary guests. One special item worth mentioning is the particularly delicious desserts (including cream puffs on some occasions!).

Breakfast is very good, as well. The typical buffet style is offered here, or you may choose to pack a picnic breakfast to go. Lunch is usually a picnic lunch incorporated into your safari on your first day 'in the bush' after departing KIA Lodge.
